Mugabe to co-chair Asia-Africa Summit

President Robert Mugabe who is in Jakarta, Indonesia for the Asia-Africa Summit, will co-chair the conference with his Indonesian counterpart President Joko Widodo.
President Mugabe, who is accompanied by the First Lady Dr Grace Mugabe was met at the Halim Perdanakusum International Airport by Indonesia's Minister of Defence Ryamizard Ryacudu, senior officials from the Indonesian government, Zimbabwe's ambassador to Indonesia, Ambassador Alice Mageza, Foreign Affairs Minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi and members of staff from the Zimbabwe embassy in Indonesia.
Mugabe is among more than 30 heads of state from Africa and Asia who will gather in Jakarta this week to share their countries' economic development experiences.
He will be co-chairing the conference in his capacity as African Union chairman.
He is also expected to deliver a speech on behalf of the African continent at celebrations to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the conference.
The celebrations will be held in Bandung on Friday.
The Asia-Africa conference was first held in 1955 to address peace, security and economic issues during the cold war between the United States and Russia when the two blocs were competing to win support from Asian and African countries.
