The South African home affairs department and the defence force will work together to complete immigration processes of Zimbabweans and other foreign nationals, the defence force said on Monday.

About 850 defence force members would support home affairs officials over three months to help get the job done, the SA National Defence Force (SANDF) spokesperson Brigadier General Marthie Visser said.

"The South African National Defence Force will be fulfilling one of its missions, which is to provide support to other government departments when required."

A total of 350 members and a further 500 reserve force members from August to November, will assist with proper staffing of vacancies in the immigration operation structure, and in completing immigration documentation, Visser said.
