Ex-Malawi army general arrested

Malawi's former army chief General Henry Odillo and his former deputy Lieutenant Colonel Clement Kafuwa have been arrested over a multi-million dollar corruption allegation.
General Odillo and Lieutenant Colonel Kafuwa are accused of arranging a contract of $4.4 million to supply military equipment which was never delivered.
The anti-corruption bureau in Malawi has detained them as part of an ongoing investigation into government corruption which was known as "cashgate".
Malawi experienced high levels of corruption that came to light in September 2013 after the attempted assassination of the finance ministry's budget director Paul Mphwiyo.
