A South African traditional seer (sangoma) has predicted that doomsday is about to befall South Africa.

Tefo Modise (64) from Thaba Nchu outside Bloemfontein has warned South Africans and their leaders about an upcoming civil war.

He predicts there will be a serious war in South Africa before the next general election. According to the sangoma, his ancestors told him in a dream that politicians who are hungry for power will cause the war.

"Many people will die. I want to send a strong message to political leaders to understand that if they don't stop being power hungry, disaster will strike our country."

Modise, who is the president of South African Traditional Healers as well as the head of The Holy Second Apostolic Church in Zion, said his ancestors revealed the dream to him earlier this year.

"I tried to forget about the dream but after it came to me many times I decided to throw the bones to see its meaning. In my dream I saw all the nations of South Africa fighting with dangerous weapons. The weaker ones were defeated while the stronger ones were lying on the ground with injuries.

"After the recent xenophobic attacks the dream came to me again. A voice told me that a civil war will break out if something is not done soon.

"The voice also told me that people who are happy with President Jacob Zuma's rule will start the war.

"This nightmare has given me sleepless nights.

"We need to prevent the war so that innocent people don't get hurt or killed.

"All South Africans should unite and pray. Prayer and honesty will make this dark cloud move away from South Africa," he said.

Political analyst Tinyiko Maluleke told Daily Sun the ANC is a strong party.

"I doubt if there will be a war, but crime, corruption and poverty will haunt South Africans for a long time," said Maluleke.

ANC Free State spokesman Thabo Meeko said Zuma is not going to resign before his presidential term ends in December 2017.

"The president is supported by all the members of the ANC, so his future is bright within the party," Meeko said.
