A 36-year-old Zimbabwean man died in Botswana after the truck he was driving collided with a train at the Kasane level crossing in Broadhurst (Ledumang Gaborone) on Saturday night.

Mmegi reported that Superintendent Bonosi Molapisi, the station Commander at the Broadhurst Police Station confirmed the incident yesterday. Molapisi however could not reveal more about the accident citing that the matter is still fresh and his office is still investigating what could have caused the accident.

"I can confirm that the accident happened Saturday night. The accident involved a Volvo truck, which was struck by the Train. We are still investigating the matter, it is still fresh at this stage," he said.

The horrific accident, which left passer-byes reeling in shock, took place at the railway crossing line behind newly built Northgate mall. The area is prone to such fatal accidents. Last year alone, five lives were lost at the level crossing.

Molapisi said that still in his area, a road accident at the Glen valley junction claimed one life. He revealed that the second accident involved a Mercedes Benz and a Nissan Almerra.

"We also lost another life in the second accident. The Police are still hard at work to investigate the cause of the accidents," Molapisi said further cautioning the public to exercise caution at all times.

The police are yet to release the names of the deceased persons, as legally there are supposed to notify relatives first.
