ANC Youth League (ANCYL) members burned a T-shirt bearing a picture of President Jacob Zuma's face outside the ruling party's headquarters in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
Supporters of African National Congress Youth League also burned flags with the colours of the ruling party, ahead the ANC's disciplinary hearing for Malema and his spokesman, Floyd Shivambu, league deputy president Ronald Lamola, secretary general Sindiso Magaqa, his deputy Kenetswe Mosenogi and treasurer general Pule Mabe.
The charges include bringing the ANC into disrepute and sowing divisions in ANC ranks.
Earlier, police fired rubber bullets and teargas at supporters who had thrown bottles and stones at law enforcement officials and journalists.
eNews said a piece of equipment, thought to be an audio cable, was grabbed from their cameraman as the channel showed footage of Malema supporters arguing amongst themselves.
In the background, they waved posters in support of Malema.
Malema recently said the ANCYL would send a team to Botswana to consolidate local opposition parties and help bring about regime change, as it believed the government there was "in full co-operation with imperialists" and undermining the "African agenda".
