Police in South Africa have reportedly arrested two armed suspects who robbed a vehicle delivering cigarettes in Muizenberg on Wednesday,

The Citizen newspaper reported that four armed suspects robbed the vehicle in Muizenberg at around 11am, spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut said.

He said just after the robbery took place, it was broadcast on police radios, and police were alerted to look out for a white getaway vehicle driving in the direction of Mitchells Plain.

"While police vehicles in the vicinity were on the lookout for a white Nissan LDV driving in the direction of Mitchells Plain, members of [the] Flying Squad spotted the vehicle on Baden Powell Drive. The occupants were apprehended and the stolen cigarettes were retrieved," said Traut.

The two suspects who were in the vehicle were arrested, and the other two suspects remain at large.

"We have reason to believe that the other two suspects, who could have been armed, were dropped off elsewhere. They are yet to be arrested," Traut said.

The two arrested suspects are expected to appear in court soon. Investigations continue to arrest the other two men, he said.
