A jilted lover in Botswana's Francistown has demanded that his ex- fiancé pay back the money her parents received as lobola.
The Voice reported that Drama unfolded last week when the 32 -year-old woman and her uncles were hauled before the Matsiloje customary court to show cause why they shouldn't refund the man his P58, 000. 00 bride price which they received sometime last year.
The court heard that Nozipho Tenela, a nurse at Gerald Estates in Francistown ended her relationship with Monei Lesetedi, 47, through a text message citing " a short penis, which didn't satisfy her sexually."
The one -year six months romance apparently took an ugly turn in April 2014, when Nozipho snooped through her fiancé's phone and discovered a text message he had sent to her former university classmate complimenting her on her beautiful body.
"You are well manufactured and well structured," read the cell phone message that signaled the beginning of an end to the couple's marriage prospects.
Lesetedi said: "The text message caused a whole lot of noise from Nozipho. After a long and frustrating interrogation she chased me away from her house. I quietly I packed my few belongings and went back to my house in Tonota."
"A few days after the incident, the couple's parents called a meeting where I profusely apologized and I was cautioned to desist from praising other women's bodies," Lesetedi, a teacher based in Bobonong narrated.
A few weeks later the couple decided to attend a "deliverance" church service as part of their strategy to strengthen their bond.
It was at the service that Lesetedi got the shock of his life
"Nozipho pulled a surprise in front of 500 people. She told everyone that she was disappointed that her lobola ceremony was not prayed for. Then she announced that it was too late for reconciliation with me because, the relationship was damaged beyond repair," said Lesetedi.
But still hopeful Lesetedi tried to meet and discuss with Nozipho on several occasions but she spurned his efforts.
In his argument to convince the court that Nozipo acted fraudulently by' tricking' him into paying for her when she had no intention to marry him, Lesetedi said, "In my opinion Nozipho never wanted to get married to me. All she wanted was my money. After she got it, she tried every trick in the book to wriggle out of the marriage. When she failed she sent me text to say my penis was too short for, so I must release her to love someone else, which I did. But she must refund me."
"Unlike other men who kill their partners when love turns sour, I have come to the kgotla to seek justice. I can not force someone to marry me when she doesn't want to but please help me get my money back so I can use it to marry someone else", Lesetedi pleaded.
Nozipho and her family are yet to make their court submissions.
