South Africa President Jacob Zuma's former spokesperson Mac Maharaj today confirmed that he was recovering well after a lung cancer operation.
Daily Sun reported that Maharaj, 80, was admitted to a Durban hospital earlier this year where he underwent surgery.
On Thursday, Maharaj was spotted at Windermere Laundry at Windermere Shopping Centre in Durban. The ANC veteran, who was picking up his laundry, seemed to be in good spirits while greeting an employee.
News24 contacted Maharaj for an interview after the brief encounter, and he confirmed that he was recovering well.
"I am making steady progress, the recovery is going well. It seems the cancer operation went successful.
"I want to reassure my family, friends and the public that I am in good hands," said Maharaj.
