A male teacher shot dead his teacher girlfriend yesterday morning, before turning the gun on himself.

The New Era reported that the incident has shocked the learners of Oshatotwa Combined School, in Okalongo, where the two both taught grades 8 to 10.

The deceased, who have been identified as Immanuel Stone Namunwe, 30, and Albertina Egonga, 25, are said to have had a troubled relationship.

Namunwe is said to have shot Egonga four times: twice in the torso, once in the leg and the fourth shot, which probably was fatal, struck her in the forehead.

Namunwe then turned the gun on himself in an act of suicide.

The principal of Oshatotwa Combined School, Sackaria yaHango, described the incident as shocking. Teachers and learners congregated at the crime scene in large numbers to express their sorrow and disbelief.

According to eyewitnesses Egonga arrived at Namunwe's home early yesterday morning in her vehicle to pick up Namunwe for the joint trip to school.

Leaving her friend in the car, she went to knock on Namunwe's front door. When she entered Namunwe's house an argument ensued, followed by the sounds of a gun being fired, said witnesses.

Egonga was then seen running from Namunwe's house pleading for her life, after she was already wounded in her torso.

She ran to the nearby flats where Namunwe followed her and shot her two more times, once in the leg and the other shot to her forehead. Namunwe then returned to his room and shot himself in the head.

When this reporter arrived at the scene the lifeless body of Egonga was still lying in a pool of blood on the ground in front of neighbours' homes.

Namunwe was born in Ogongo village, while Egonga came from Okapanda village in Omusati Region.

The killer left behind a suicide note detailing the events leading up to her death.

Egonga is survived by a two-year-old son from a previous relationship.

Teachers at the school said that the couple was not on good terms, but they did not foresee such level of animosity between the two that it would lead to murder.

This is the second intimate relationship killing in Omusati Region in the past two months.

Last month, the 26-year-old Johanna Angula was stabbed to death by her boyfriend.
