SOUTH AFRICA - A sexual encounter ended in blood after a wife caught her husband with his pants down.

Virginia Sefala, 33, appeared in the Tembisa Magistrate's Court on Monday on two charges of attempted murder. She was granted bail.

A neighbour who declined to be named said Sefala caught her husband Mashilo Madibana and his lover Phumzile Mazibuko in bed on Sunday.

Mazibuko, Madibana and Sefala are colleagues at a poultry farm in Olifantsfontein, near Tembisa.

The neighbour said a knife-wielding Sefala chased her husband and Mazibuko and allegedly stabbed them in full view of neighbours.

The incident happened at their home, also at Olifantsfontein. Another neighbour said Sefala had left her home some time last week after a fight with her husband.

But when she returned on Sunday morning - with the husband's aunt with the hope of resolving their issues - she found him in bed with Mazibuko.

"She knocked on the door but he did not open. He only opened the door after she threatened to break it down. He was undressed and there was a woman sitting on the bed wearing tights and a T-shirt," said the neighbour.

She said the wife got angry and grabbed a knife.

"The room was too small for either of them to escape. They tried to run away but the woman caught them before they could reach the gate and stabbed them in their bodies," she said.

"I have never seen so much blood before. She stabbed them all over their bodies," she said.

The women said Sefala only stopped stabbing the two when they fell to the ground, despite pleas from neighbours.

"I could see that she was very angry and I went to her and told her that if I were in the same situation, I would have done the same thing.

"She still had the knife in her hand. I asked her to allow them to go to hospital because she would not let them out of the gate," the neighbour said.

They were transported to hospital by ambulance.

Police also arrived and arrested her at the scene.

Police spokeswoman Constable Patricia Mgijima said that in another incident about two streets away, a 22-year-old woman stabbed her husband, 28, to death after a heated argument on Saturday.

The woman was arrested for murder. She appeared in the same court on Monday and her case was postponed to later this month for a formal bail application.
