A Zimbabwean living in South Africa Ngqabutho Mabhena has lamented the astronomical rentals which many Zimbabweans and other nationals living in South Africa are paying saying given a chance one could have been able to buy his or her own house if she or he had been keeping all the money.
"Someone said, "if you throw a stone in Hillbrow, you are likely to hit a Zimbabwean," he said. "While it is good to stay in Hillbrow, but the capitalists continue to exploit us. Imagine the rent we pay to the landlord every month? If the rent we pay is a rent to buy, surely a number of these flats will be owned by us."
"Some of them enjoy the title, "umastanda "and forget that, if you miss rent by one month, the landlord will evict you even if you have spent 15 years renting the flat. Is it possible to rent to buy the flats in Hillbrow?" he added.
