A 41-year-old man is on the run after he allegedly shot at a crowd gathered at a Step Inn Club in Namibia at Tsumeb seriously injuring two revellers in the process, media has reported.
The Namibian reported that Police were hunting for the suspected following the shooting incident.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson Chief Inspector Kaunapawa Shikwambi told Nampa upon enquiry on Sunday the incident occurred at about 03h15 in the Namtsoub area.
The suspect allegedly opened fire towards a crowd in front of the bar and shot the two victims. A woman, 41, sustained serious injuries in her abdomen, while a 21-year-old man was seriously injured in his left arm.
The victims were taken to the Tsumeb State Hospital and later transferred to the Oshakati State Hospital. Shikwambi said the suspect, who is known to the police, fled the scene and has not yet been arrested.
She also informed this news agency that a man was arrested at the Okatope roadblock on Friday for interfering with a police officer while he was on duty.
The 21-year-old, who was a passenger in a Toyota sedan, interrupted a conversation between the police official and the driver of the vehicle.
The passenger then pointed a finger at the officer and pushed him. The man was arrested and charged for obstructing a police officer during the execution of his duties.
"It is the festive season and the police are hard at work. All we are asking the public is for their cooperation, tolerance and patience, especially at all traffic checkpoints. Allow the officers to do their work unhindered and do not undermine their duties, rather render your assistance where necessary," Shikwambi said.
