THOKOZANI "SOMNANDI" LANGA and other maskandi artists, like the late Mtshengiseni "Indidane" Gcwensa, Mgqumeni "IBhova Likadikadika" Khumalo and Bhekumuzi "Mfoka Molo" Luthuli used to tease each other.

Daily Sun reported that their songs often had sarcastic lyrics and many viewed this as a way of teasing each other.

But some fans thought when these maskandi artists threw these jabs it meant they hated each other.

And so, Somnandi said he felt unsafe to attend Indidane's funeral in September.

Somnandi said he was advised by fans and people close to him that if he set foot at Indidane's funeral, he would be risking his life.

Somnandi said the teasing and dissing of each other needed to stop – and this is why he's dropped a new album titled Khuzeka Mshana.

The 16-track offering contains a song called Umangcofana (provoking) in which Somnandi pleads with fellow maskandi artists to stop the practice of teasing.

"I understand fighting has been part of our lives since our youth.

"But this fighting through music is useless as it misleads our fans. I was hurt when I couldn't give a proper send-off to one of my so-called rivals because some people thought I'm happy and laughing.

"No one should be happy about the death of other people. While we fully understand the teasing is just a game, our fans don't take it like that," said Somnandi.
