A HUSBAND of Lusaka woman left the Kanyama Local Court in stitches after he described his pregnant lover as his spare wheel.
This was after his wife Minerva Chibuye, (23), told the court she wants their marriage dissolved because she has suffered cruelty as a result of being barren.
Zambia Daily Maily reported that Chibuye of John Laing was testifying in case in which she sued her husband Gardener Malumbe, (26), of the same township for divorce.
Chibuye got married to Malumbe in 2013 but the two have no children together.
She said Malumbe was in the habit of beating her whenever he was drunk.
"I've been away at my parents' place for six months now because he chased me. One day my in-laws asked me to go back to my matrimonial home and get my belongings because my husband had re-married," she said.
She said when she went to their home, she found Malumbe had shifted to another house with his new wife.
However, Malumbe who refused to consent to divorce told the court that it is acceptable for the Tongas to marry more than one wife.
The court granted divorce and ordered Malumbe to compensate Chibuye with K7,000.
