A man who tried to knock some sense into a bully's head with an axe handle landed on the wrong side of the law after he, together with his five friends were charged for the murder of the rowdy Zimbabwean man.
Bob Dauwe (24) together with his friends, Oreabetse Talae (17), Osego Keakanyeng (22), Polediso Keakanyeng (22), Bathusi Boy (22) and Tlou Lekgoko (50) are alleged to have assaulted the illegal immigrant, known only as Fish, at Thapadiatla ranch near Serowe.
Eye-witnesses told of how on the afternoon of January 28, Fish threatened to kill Dauwe's young brother, Kesiilwe, for refusing to get their sister to fall in love with him.
Armed with a metal rod, the Zimbabwean man is alleged to have chased the young boy who ended up spending the night at a nearby farm.
The following day Fish is alleged to have found the young boy in the company of his siblings and started harassing them together with other people at the ranch.
Dauwe is said to have then picked an axe and hit him on the head with the handle before the mob joined in to help.
Fish is said to have sustained injuries on the right thigh and head from the attack and passed out.
The matter was reported to the police and Fish's motionless body was later taken to Letlhakane Primary Hospital where he was certified dead.
Assistant Superintendent Bopelo Ntatiwa of Serowe Police, confirmed the incident and said the six suspects have been remanded in custody, charged with murder.
