Cape Town - A 2-year-old Cape Town girl who was allegedly raped by a neighbour, had injuries so extensive that she had to be operated on.
A South African Court heard that the girl's mother went to church on Sunday morning, leaving her daughter in her aunt's care in Nyanga, reported Jade Witten for Cape Argus.
When the mother got back from church, she saw the little girl's clothing was covered in blood and discovered that the child was bleeding.
She took her to hospital where it was confirmed that the child had been raped.
The toddler was then taken to the Red Cross Children's Hospital for surgery.
A neighbour was arrested after he was seen in blood-stained clothes, coming from an area where the toddler was also seen.
Aphiwe Papiyane, 23, then had his shack searched for DNA evidence.
Protesters gathered outside the Wynberg court to oppose bail for Papiyane.
