UNABLE to contend with his wife's high libido, the Matero Local Court has heard how a Lusaka husband allegedly suggested she finds other men to satisfy her excessive sexual appetite.
Zambia Daily Mail reported that Rhoda Banda, 20, complained to senior court magistrates Lewis Mumba and Pauline Newa that she decided to ignore her husband Enoch Njovu's suggestion and opted to take cold showers when she felt the need to engage in sexual relations with him.
Banda said it was difficult being loyal and faithful to her husband who also usually deserted her claiming he had to be away at work for longer hours just to avoid performing his marital duties in the bedroom.
She was narrating in a case in which she sued Njovu, 32, of Garden township for divorce. The couple which married in 2013 has one child and bride price was paid. The couple has however been on separation for two years.
"Problems in our marriage started when he found a job as a bus driver.  He became promiscuous. I have tried remaining loyal but it is becoming extremely hard. He just will not allow me to enjoy my conjugal rights as his wife. If I wanted, I would have gone ahead and found another man to sexually satisfy me but I didn't. Instead, I would just have cold showers to suppress my feelings," he said.
Banda said when she was pregnant; Njovu would leave her without food for a month claiming he was working.
But Njovu said Banda's behaviour has contributed to the numerous problems in their three-year-old marriage.
"She has a short temper and whenever we have a misunderstanding, she packs her belongings and goes to her mother. She only comes back when I beg. That is the reason I fail to sexually satisfy her because she is always running back to her parents," he said.
The court granted divorce and ordered Njovu to pay Banda K2,000 as compensation with an initial payment of K500 starting March month-end to be followed by K250 monthly.
Njovu was also ordered to pay K300 monthly as child maintenance.
