A WOMAN of Lusaka's Barlastone area has told the Matero Local Court how her husband attempted to assault her sexually using a bottle of Mosi during a marital dispute.
Zambia Daily Mail reported that Maureen Daka, 30, told senior court magistrates Pauline Newa and Lewis Mumba that Reuben Daka, 38, also of the same township is a very promiscuous and violent man.
"In the course of a marital dispute on New Year's Eve, Reuben beat me badly and tried to put an empty bottle in my private part," she said.
Maureen told the court that she got married to Reuben in 2005 after he paid bride price. The couple has three children together.
"Problems in our marriage started in 2008 after Reuben found a job as a truck driver. Reuben changed; he stopped respecting me as his wife. He often calls me a prostitute and spends most of his time away from home with his girlfriends," she said.
Maureen said Reuben at one time even took his girlfriend to live with the couple in their matrimonial home.
"We had a conflict about it until she moved out and Reuben started renting a house for her. He even went to the extent of saying he regretted having married me," she said.
Maureen told the court that Reuben also threatens to kill her and entire family.
"This man has also infected me with HIV yet he refuses to be on ARV treatment. I'm tired of this marriage, I just want a divorce," she said.
And Reuben admitted having attempted to put a bottle in Maureen's private parts claiming he was angered when his wife went out on New Year's Eve without his consent.
"Maureen is in a habit of spending nights away from home. She also loves her beer. I love her very much and I do not want our marriage to end because our children are very young," he said.
Reuben said Maureen's family tried to beat him at a family funeral after accusing him of infecting her with HIV.
Passing judgment, the court granted the couple divorce and ordered Reuben to compensate Maureen with K15,000.
The court also ordered Reuben to pay K1,000 monthly as child maintenance.
