An unemployed woman from Thamaga was this week found guilty of marriage wrecking and fined P15 000 by Mogoditshane customary court.
Appearing before court on Tuesday, 30-year-old Keneilwe Seporo was accused of confiscating her married lover's wedding ring and then taunting his wife about it over the phone.
The court heard how Seporo, acting in an apparent jealous rage, disposed of Mogomotsi Lopang's ring by throwing it down a pit latrine toilet.
The Voice Reported that Seporo followed that up by calling Lopang's wife, 35-year-old Felicia, and boasting about what she had just done.
Lopang, 44, who appeared before court as a witness, however denied that lover took his ring claiming that he lost it when he was out drinking with friends.
He actually denied that Seporo is his girlfriend though he later exposed himself as a liar.
"The woman is just a friend, she stole the phone while I was sleeping and called my wife," he said drawing stifled laughs from the audience who also asked in hushed tones where he was sleeping when his lover stole the phone.
However, an annoyed and emotional Felicia told the court that it was not the only time she has spoken to Seporo over the phone.
The aggrieved wife has apparently received numerous calls from Seporo, claiming that she was pregnant with Lopang's child and that he had built a house for her.
Felicia also told court about a night in late December last year when she tried to call her husband on his phone.
After several failed attempts the phone was finally answered, apparently by Seporo, who told Felicia to ‘stop calling as we are trying to sleep'.
An upset Felicia confronted her husband about the strange woman answering his phone.
She then claims, in a bid to save their marriage, Lopang admitted to having an affair and apologised.
In her defence, a nervous looking Seporo, who was supported by her mother, denied ever taking Lopang's ring, saying, "Since I met him I never saw him wearing a wedding ring."
Her denial fell on deaf ears however, and she was ordered to pay Felicia P15 000 within two months.
The parties were told to appeal the matter after 30 days if not satisfied with the case proceedings and judgement.
