Malema feels his human rights are being undermined, 'Hawks media leaks'

South Africa - ANC Youth League president Julius Malema feels his human rights are being undermined by media leaks from the police, SABC news reported on Tuesday.

The broadcaster said Malema was considering approaching the public protector and the Human Rights Commission over the matter.

In an interview, Malema said he was worried over what he labelled as persistent leaks from an unnamed source within the Hawks crime fighting unit.

"There can't be leakages in an institution like the Hawks. It means people working there are not loyal to the internal processes," Malema said.

"The Hawks themselves have to be concerned why such an individual behaves that way. They must investigate themselves because that individual undermines investigations and the integrity of the institution itself."

Several news reports have suggested that Malema would be charged by the Hawks upon his return from a friend's multimillion rand wedding in Mauritius.

The Sunday Independent was the first to report that the Hawks have prima facie evidence of corruption related to the awarding of tenders to companies Malema has an interest in.

The reports said Malema would be arrested and be brought before a court to answer allegations of fraud, corruption and money laundering.

Malema said he was willing to co-operate.

On Monday, league spokesperson Floyd Shivambu issued a statement saying there had never been any form of communication between Malema and the Hawks.

"The faceless sources quoted in the newspaper reports are spreading sensational rumours," Shivambu said.
