Sangoma's wife killed for helping taxi drivers

SANGOMA Thami Lukhele (35) refused to be intimidated by angry taxi drivers.
Now his wife is dead – shot 21 times by hitmen – and his three-year-old son is in hospital, having been struck by three bullets!
Daily Sun reported that Thami believes the brutal murder of his wife was a warning to him that he should stop helping taxi drivers and owners with muthi.
But the sangoma from Mountain View, Kwamhlanga, Mpumalanga, is adamant that his ancestors gave him the gift and he will stop only if the ancestors themselves instruct him to.
Thami's wife was shot on Thursday.
"We were in the bakkie and I was reversing when I saw in the rear-view mirror two men enter my yard," he said.
"They just opened fire on the passenger side, where my wife was sitting."
After emptying their rifles the men fled in a silver VW Polo.
"I thought threats were meant to scare me, but now my wife is dead and my son is wounded," he said.
"They were innocent. My wife is not even involved in the taxi industry."
Thami said the attack on his family was just another violent incident fuelled by ongoing taxi strife in KwaMhlanga.
He said a new taxi association had taken over the taxi rank by force, which did not go down well with other members. Police confirmed the incident. A case of murder and two cases of attempted murder are being investigated.
No arrests have been made.
