A  21-year old man is in police custody for the murder of his father following a long standing family feud that turned tragic last week.

The Voice reported that Sebase family in Molepolole were left startled last Wednesday after the youthful Kitso Setlhotlha Patse hacked his 61-year old father, Mogaminyana Sebase, to death with an axe.

Relatives told of how the tragic incident that saw Patse hacking his own father three times with the axe, started with a heated argument.

Upon noticing that he had killed his father, the terrified Patse allegedly went to hide at his uncle's place but was handed over to the police the following day.

A family representative, Thantshi Sebase, says he received a call at around 11am on Wednesday and was told about his brother's death.

He said his late brother and wife had been on separation and sleeping in different rooms while awaiting to finalise their divorce the 2nd of June. "We saw this coming and asked my brother to move to our mother's house but he refused saying he want to stay at his own house. He had opened an assault cases against his children with the police and they were always threatening to kill him," he said.

Thantshi said the deceased's children had ganged up with their mother to fight him for his pension money. "The fights started after he retired from the mine in Gauteng where he worked for many years. Kitso was an arrogant child, disrespected his father so much that he could insult him," said Sebase.

Another brother to the deceased, Spanere Sebase, said they were deeply hurt by the incident.

He said Mogaminyana once asked him to intervene in the dispute but his wife was not cooperative and never listened to his advice. He said there was no peace at the deceased family so much that he decided to divorce his wife.

Molepolole police station Commander, Charles Mbengwa, confirmed the incident and advised people to seek help from the relevant authorities whenever they have conflicts instead of taking law into their hands.

Mbengwa said such incidents were a concern in his area and that the police have started a campaign aimed at educating people about the consequences of such crimes.

Patse has been remanded at Moshupa Boys prison.
