A 22-year-old mother from Bluetown in Francistown has been found murdered, her body dumped half naked in a vegetable garden along the banks of Tati River.
The Voice reported that Police discovered Koziba Fani's body two weeks ago after she was reported missing by her worried boyfriend.
After launching a massive 11-day manhunt for the killer, police finally made an arrest apprehending Moemedi Olatestwe, 21, on suspicion of the murder.
The suspected killer was allegedly tracked down after he answered the victim's cellphone, explained Tati Town police head of Criminal Investigation, Detective Assistant Superintendent, Lawrence Nthoiwa.
"During our investigations the younger sister to the deceased received a call from her sister's phone. But the caller was a male voice. He asked her if she knew the owner of the phone, before he said, ‘I have killed her' and then dropped the phone," said Nthoiwa.
Armed with this information, police continued calling the number until they finally got through again.
"The male voice once again said, ‘I killed that person'," continued Nthoiwa, adding that they were then directed to the exact spot where Fani's body was dumped.
Despite being told not to give a plea, when he appeared in court Olatestwe said, "I ask the court to forgive me. It was not my intention to kill her. It's because of the marijuana which I had taken."
Fani was last seen alive on the morning of Thursday May 12, when her boyfriend left for work.
He (the boyfriend) became concerned when he did not see Fani over the next two days, as Nthoiwa explains, "On Saturday the boyfriend informed the father of the deceased that the young lady had not slept at home for the past two nights. After checking the hospitals and not finding her they came here to lodge a report."
Olatestwe was denied bail and reprimanded in custody until the 7th of June when he is due to appear in court again.
