THE Hawks in KZN are on a mission to get rid of drugs in the province.
KZN Hawks spokesman Lieutenant Simphiwe Mhlongo said drugs were found at a tavern in Phoenix on Friday. About 400 packets of cocaine, 50 ecstasy tablets, 50g of cocaine stone, 50 packets of cocaine powder and 153 smoking pipes were seized. The confiscated items have a street value of R167 050.
"Members also seized R138 780 in cash, which is suspected to have been made through drug dealing," he said.
Four suspects aged between 25 and 49 were arrested and charged for dealing in drugs. They will appear in the Durban Magistrates Court today.
On Thursday night the Hawks, together with members of the Crime Intelligence and Shongweni K9 units, arrested a 47-year-old man for allegedly selling drugs from his Chatsworth home.
"He was found in possession of 521 heroine capsules, 124 ecstasy tablets, 49 mandrax tablets, 19 packets of powdered cocaine, 99 heroine straws, 138g of cat and 5g of rock cocaine.
"The drugs have a street value of R70 000," said Mhlongo.
The cops proceeded to Bayview, where a 32-year-old woman was arrested for drug possession.
She was found in possession of 123 heroin capsules, seven pieces of crack cocaine and 22 mandrax tablets.
Both suspects will appear in the Chatsworth Magistrates Court soon.
