Mogoditshane Kgotla recently knocked some sense into a 26-year-old unruly young man who insulted his mother with six lashes of the cane on his bare buttocks.
Details on the charge sheet state that Kealeboga Tebang, a student at New Era College arrived at his mother's home in the evening drunk and playing music in his car radio.
He then became an utter nuisance, smashing beer bottles on the ground until tenants woke up and complained of the noise.
When his mother, 52-year-old Leungonyana Tsokgo came out of the house to reprimand him, Tebang forcefully pushed Tsokgo away and insulted her by calling her ‘lebelete la mosadimogolo' (meaning old bit**.)
He also insulted all the men his mother has ever dated.
Shocked tenants came out of the house to witness the ugly scene, but Tebang ignored all of them and continued insulting his mom until she broke down and cried bitterly, the court was told.
In court the distraught mother demanded that her third born be punished severely for the bad manners.
When passing his sentence, Chief Alfred Dihutso warned Tebang to desist from insulting his mother because it could earn him a prison sentence.
During mitigation, Tebang told the court that he is a student, and therefore he feared that a prison term would disrupt his studies.
Dihutso settled for a whipping, which he said was meant to serve as a strong warning for the young man to stop disrespecting his mother
