Suspected 23 Zimbabweans were intercepted by South African police hidden in a bakkie in Pretoria early this morning.

According to Jacaranda News, the suspects are thought to be human trafficking victims.

"#HumanTrafficking 23 people suspected to be from Zimbabwe were found in a bakkie by police in Pretoria" it tweeted.

The publication gave no further details.

It is believed more people are fleeing President Robert Mugabe's increasingly repressive regime.

An estimated three million Zimbabweans are believed to be residing in South Africa, with the largest percentage of the population living without permits and well paying jobs.

Despite these hardships, many Zimbabweans living in South Africa have chosen to stay put in the neighbouring country until normalcy returns to their motherland.
