Mugabe too old to rule, says Ian Khama

President Robert Mugabe should have stepped down a long time ago and, at his age, he is unable to provide the leadership that Zimbabwe needs to get out of its predicament, Botswana President Ian Khama said in an interview likely to further strain relations between the neighbouring countries.

Khama said the situation in Zimbabwe was a big concern for the region, but was pessimistic of Mugabe's ability to improve the country's situation.

He said there were many people who could lead Zimbabwe, calling for term limits of up to 10 years.

Information minister Christopher Mushowe yesterday said he had not yet seen the report, inferring that it could have been concocted and was, thus, false.
