Two Tanzanian men who were arrested in Zimbabwe last year while trying to traffic cocaine to South Africa have been jailed for seven years each.
Juma Ally Juma (30) amd Masumbuko Abdallah Munguni (38) were arrested after they started excreting cocaine capsules worth US$203 810 while on board a bus travelling from Zambia to South Africa last year.
They told the court that they were each promised US$1000 by a Tanzanian drug dealer only identified as Malik if they successfully transported the drugs to Cape Town.
Capsule burst
The duo swallowed the capsules while in Tanzania and joined their colleague Francis Williams, whose trial is yet to commence in Zambia.
The trio boarded a bus from Lusaka and crossed the Zambia-Zimbabwe border without being detected.
But one of them started suffering stomach problems after a cocaine capsule burst while in the bus.
They were arrested and monitored by the police until Munguni, Juma and Williams excreted 63, 96 and 92 capsules of cocaine respectively.
