Police in Francistown are investigating an incident in which a 33-year-old Zimbabwean woman was shot on Wednesday morning at Satellite location as she walked to work with her husband.
According to 'The Voice', Sipho Ndlovu was carrying her 6-month-old baby when she met her ordeal.
The publication reports that Ndlovu sustained a fractured sheen and she is currently recuperating at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital.
When narrating details of the incident, Ndlovu's husband Danisa Phiri (37) said a police car approached them from behind and with the full knowledge that he was in the country illegally, he fled leaving his wife behind.
"A few moments later I heard a gunshot. I thought maybe it was a warning shot for me to stop but I later discovered that my wife was shot right in the middle of the road," said Phiri.
Visibly still shaken by the ordeal the nursing mother said the police initially told hospital staff that she fell on a rock but later changed and claimed they shot at her as she crossed into Botswana illegally.
Botswana Police Public Relations Officer, Witness Bosija, confirmed the shooting incident. "Yes we have a shooting incident in Francistown which involves two foreigners. Our officers were on duty and a foreign individual was shot and is currently recovering at the hospital," he said.
Bosija could not provide any further details as he said investigations were still at an early stage.
