ARDA Jotsholo increases capacity utilisation by 50%

The introduction of the command agriculture programme has seen ARDA Jotsholo Estate in Lupane doubling its capacity utilisation by over 200 hectares.
ARDA Jotsholo is one of the estates around the country in which President Emmerson Mnangagwa proved to Zimbabweans that he is capable of turning around the country's food security through the successful command agriculture programme.
The 520 hectare scheme is now utilising 450 hectares up from the 200 hectares which were under production before the command agriculture programme came into effect.
This year the estate harvested 7 tonnes of both commercial and seed wheat on over 150 hectares under the programme.
Currently 85 hectares of seed maize is under production and expected to be ready in the market by April next year and will be used during the 2018/2019 farming season.
ARDA Jotsholo Estates manager Mr Ndodana Ncube noted 150 hectares of soya beans have been planted while preparations to plant commercial maize on 200 hectares under the command agriculture programme are at an advanced stage.
"If you look from where we come from, when this command agriculture programme came into effect, we have increased every season, we increase in terms of hectarage. Right now we have seed maize the first of its kind and we have done 85 hectares," he said.
The estate has already received all inputs for the crops to be planted during the 2017/2018 summer cropping season and the agricultural authority is optimistic that it will surpass harvest targets.
