Mugabe caps 77 Harare Institute of Technology graduates

President Robert Mugabe on Thursday capped (77 graduands) the second group of Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) graduates.
HIT's 2nd graduation ceremony has seen the conferment of degrees, diplomas and certificates to graduates from the Schools of Engineering and Technology, School of Industrial Sciences and Technology, School of Information Sciences and Technology as well as the School of Business and Management Sciences.
In his speech at the ceremony, HIT Acting Vice Chancellor, Engineer Quinton Kanhukamwe said the college is complementing government efforts in harnessing science and technology for development through various programmes that specialise in the field in line with international trends.
Engineer Kanhukamwe said the institution has also adopted a deliberate five-year strategic plan that demands that graduands should be highly knowledgeable and become agents of meaningful socio-economic transformation.
Among those who received degrees were Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation employees, Obert Gama and Martin Mateesanwa, who said the knowledge gained during the four years of study will be used to improve their operations at the institution.
Higher and Tertiary Education Minister, Dr Stan Mudenge, his secretary Dr Washington Mbizvo, Dr Sikhanyiso Ndlovu and other senior government officials graced the graduation ceremony.
HIT was established in 1988 as the National Vocational Training Development Centre, a polytechnic that was finally converted into a full university in 2005.
