11,000 teachers required

Government says more than 11000 teachers are required for early childhood development (ECD) under the new curriculum.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education and Technology Development, Dr Machiwenyika Mapuranga who was the guest speaker at Nyadire Teachers College graduation ceremony says they have partnered the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in re-skilling already trained teachers while teachers' colleges are expected to provide the bulk under their teacher training programmes.
Nyadire Teachers College principal, Mrs Rosemary Nyarugwe said they are now emphasizing on training teachers who produce self reliant students as per requirements of the stem programme and the new curriculum.
A total of 504 graduands graduated in general course and the ECD course.
The graduation was held under the theme, "Innovative Teachers for Technologically Driven Society".
