MDC-T Bulawayo spokesperson Felix Mafa Sibanda has bemoaned the lack of transparency in the selection of students for the Presidential Scholarship.
He said National scholarship has impossible demands for rural school.
"There is viral advertisement run by ZBC currently that is inviting poor rural students to apply for foreign scholarship via President Mugabe. The surprising and absurd demands are that those remote districts pupils must score A or B in pure sciences," Sibanda said.
"It appears that the advert is a gimmick to appear is for the disadvantaged ones yet is for the elite families. The national scholarship directorate is not realistic for demanding 12 points at Advanced level yet those schools in remote Zimbabwe are poorly staffed without adequate teaching aids/media."
"We are calling for transparency and accountability from the ministry of higher education and president office."
Sibanda said to consider that rural pupils aren't exposed to basic educational facilities like Laborites ,science/maths text books, libraries and qualified teachers. Its therefore incredible to expect results from Gokwe Chess in Mt Darwin etc.
