Teachers from 50 schools in Matabeleland South are undertaking a short course on theatre directing at Amakhosi Cultural Centre in Bulawayo.

The course, in four modules is being delivered by Cont Mhlanga an accomplished theatre practitioner and owner of Amakhosi Cultural Centre (ACC).

Mhlanga said he personally trains the teachers and drill instructors follow up on his teachings.

Amakhosi Cultural Centre partnered with Provincial National Association of School Heads (Nash) to manage and implement the theatre directing short course for school teachers.

The centre further developed the course through independent funding. Each school provided a single teacher.

Mhlanga said the course is an effort to improve theatre standards and teaching practice at schools.

Interested schools fund their own teachers to receive training.

The teachers would be housed at the centre's accommodation facilities during training to ensure that they are not disturbed.

In case of many students the centre arranges with outside accommodation providers.

Mhlanga said he hopes to improve quality of artists coming from schools.

The course is open to teachers in primary, secondary, private and spublic schools from all provinces of Zimbabwe.

The Centre is rated as one of the best arts and cultural entities in the country.

It has produced a number of top theatre acts that received world acclaim.
