A Lupane primary school that was temporarily closed two weeks ago after goblins terrorised teachers has been reopened following a cleansing ceremony.

The school was deserted by both teachers and pupils after they saw mysterious creatures but Matabeleland North education director Boithatelo Mnguni on Tuesday said the villagers in the area had conducted a cleansing ceremony.

She said the villagers had consulted a spirit medium who asked for a sheep and needle cast away the goblins.

"The teachers returned to work, the goblins were affecting the community for some time but teachers were afraid to talk about the issue openly," said Mnguni.

The school, with an enrolment of 240 pupils and has seven teachers was closed after the goblins reportedly threaten to beat up everyone.

The goblins were reportedly sexually harassing female teacher who would wake up in the morning naked and their underwear hanging on windows.

The goblins would also take food stuffs that included mealie-meal and meat from the houses of male teachers.

In 2010, teachers abandoned Dry Paddock Primary School in Kezi, Matabeleland South fleeing goblins. The local chief, Nyangazonke organised members of the apostolic sect who chased away the goblins.
