Grace Mugabe school elbows out the poor
04 Feb 2013 at 01:01hrs | Views
The Amai Grace Mugabe Junior School which was officially opened by the First Family on Thursday costs a whopping $2 300 per pupil per term for boarders, a figure that has raised fears that the institution is set to serve the rich and famous, to the exclusion of the impoverished local community.
Most of the families around the school are former workers of evicted white farmers who obviously cannot afford the fees.
Most private schools charge between $1 500 and $2 000.
The state-of-art double storey school built on 7 720 square metres of land comprises 27 classes, a library, an art room, a music room, offices and auxiliary equipment rooms.
