President Mugabe's scholarship programme at Rhodes University in South Africa appears to have collapsed, exposing close to 100 students who may have to abandon their studies because of non-payment of fees.
The vice-chancellor of the university, Saleem Badat, said 44 of the beleaguered students were in their final year and were unlikely to be able to complete their studies or write examinations unless the Presidential Scholarship Programme paid their fees.
The scholarship is supposed to pay for the students' tuition, residence fees and other needs.
