THE National University of Science and Technology (Nust) has opened a fresh registration window to cater for under-graduates students who could not secure vacancies in the initial registration exercise.

Nust's director of information and public relations Mr Felix Moyo on Tuesday said interested candidates who have Mathematics at Ordinary Level and at least two points at Advanced Level should not hesitate to come forward.

"The university had offered 1 700 places for new students and those who were shortlisted were given up to Friday 28 June 2013 to pay their deposits," said Mr Moyo.

"Every year once we have gone past the deadline we ask all those who are qualified and had applied but could not get vacancies to come and look for places on a first come first serve basis.

"Prospective candidates should know that they must have Mathematics at Ordinary Level and at least two points at Advanced Level."

Mr Moyo said in the first registration process vacancies were given on the basis of merit because of competition.

He said as a result some classes were filled with candidates with 15 points at Advanced Level and some with 14 points and a few with 13 points.

Mr Moyo could not be drawn into disclosing the number of students set to benefit from this exercise saying:

"Now the opportunity is for those with two points upwards to come and look for places . We will take qualified students until we fill our classes. This is with immediate effect and chances are bright for those who come early.

"Those who had been offered places and had not paid up their deposits can also come and try their luck. We also hope this window will be an advantage to local students who often complain that they are being left out," he said
