JUNE 2013 Zimsec Advanced Level results are out and have since been dispatched to all Zimsec regional offices.
In a statement yesterday, Zimsec director Mr Esau Nhandara said heads of examination centres could start collecting the results from their respective regional offices starting today.
"Heads of examination centres are hereby requested to start collecting the results from their respective Zimsec regional offices starting Friday 16 August 2013," he said.
"Zimsec regional offices are urged to facilitate the smooth collection of the results."
Statistics released by the examination board showed a general improvement in performance by the candidates. Mr Nhandara attributed the high pass rate to a wider access to revision material by the candidates.
"This is probably due to availability and accessibility of question and answer booklets which candidates and centres use for revision purposes," he said. "Where performance dropped, this may have been caused by a phenomenal increase in entries and setting in the Central Limit Theorem.
Where performance remained constant, paper difficulties were the same across."
Mr Nhandara said Literature in English had a low candidature arising from the O-Level scenario where not many centres offered the subject. He said the low candidature might also be as a result of unavailability of qualified teachers in the subject and the prohibitive cost of set-books.
For English Language and Communication skills, the pass rate is 97,44 percent, which is a consistent increase from last year and 2011 pass rates that stood at 97, 18 and 89, 36 respectively.
Mathematics also recorded a sharp increase from 22,22 percent in 2012 to 53,35 this year.
However, Physics and Biology pass rates dropped from 77 percent and 91,91 percent in 2011 respectively to 60 percent and 84,76 apiece this year.
