Ordinary Level ("O" Level) exams commenced yesterday, with the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) saying it does not anticipate any leakages after putting in place water tight measures.
John Maramba, Zimsec acting director, told reporters yesterday that "O" Level exams began yesterday with the Zimsec timetable showing that students sat for practical subjects which include metal work and wood work.
Advanced Level examinations commence on October 28.
Marimba said the examination body has put in place measures to curb leakages.
"Zimsec does not anticipate any leakages this year because we have held several awareness meetings with the heads of examination centres on the need to improve the security of question papers," Marimba said.
"We dispatched question papers to cluster points closer to centres than was previously the case. We initiated monitoring teams to monitor during the examination period.
"We issued several examination circulars on the handling of examination materials especially question papers."
Last year the examination body cancelled 13 Ordinary Level exam papers after they leaked in Matabeleland.
The cancelled papers included English Language (Paper 1 and 2), Mathematics non-calculator version (Paper 1 and 2), Geography (Paper 1 and 2) Integrated Science (Paper 1, 2 and 3), Commerce (Paper 1 and 2) and Ndebele (Paper 1 and 2).
An acting headmaster in Matabeleland North Province reportedly lost the papers while travelling from Bulawayo to his school.
