Vice President Joice Mujuru has called for the upgrading and modernisation of infrastructure in the education sector in line with the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (ZIM ASSET).
Mujuru was speaking at the inaugural National School Infrastructure Expo and Conference held in Harare on Wednesday, where stakeholders in the education sector, financiers, representatives from the construction industry and captains of industry and commerce converged.
The event was organised by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education as part of efforts to improve schools infrastructure in the country in line with the provisions of the government's new economic blueprint, ZIM ASSET.
Mujuru applauded the initiative, saying it demonstrates the desire by the government to continue giving focus to quality education that can compete on the international level.
"This expo will go a long way in sending a message of what needs to be done to improve our highly regarded education system. Actually, the expo has come at a right time, just after the crafting of the economic blue print, ZIM ASSET, which also spells out what needs to be done for the country's development," said Mujuru.
The Senior Minister of State, Simon Khaya Moyo also graced the expo and urged players in the private sector to chip in and assist the government to develop the infrastructure in the education sector in order to improve the quality of education.
Primary and Secondary Education Minister, Lazarus Dokora said some schools are too congested and the ministry is committed to rectify that challenge and create a conducive learning environment.
The one-day conference was held concurrently with an expo where various companies in the education sector and construction industry showcased their products and services.
