Government is engaging science graduates from Bindura University of Science and Technology to take science teaching posts at various schools around the country to curb the shortage of science teachers.

The move by government will see most secondary schools getting science teachers who have been scarce over the years and will play an important role towards ensuring that all secondary schools have science equipment.

In an interview in the capital, the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Lazarus Dokora said the idea was mooted after it was discovered that there is a shortage of science teachers across the country.

Dokora further clarified the issue of other degreed teachers who do not have a teaching qualification saying they will remain temporary teachers until they attain education qualifications.

The engagement of science graduates is with immediate effect as government had already engaged the Public Service Commission to accommodate temporary teachers.

A number of schools have been operating without science teachers for a long time and the move by government will improve pupils' knowledge in science subjects.
