Govt withdraws exam fees subsidy

Candidates for Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) Ordinary and Advanced level will pay $13 and $26 respectively according to the approved examination fees structure for 2014.
The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Lazarus Dokora said while candidates used to pay $12 and $24, with government subsidising $1 and $2 for O-level and A-level respectively, the candidates will now pay the full amount.
"We have had meetings with Zimsec to consider the fees structure proposals and l am glad to announce that cabinet has approved the fees structure which will see candidates for O-level and A-level paying $13 and $26 respectively," Dokora said.
Zimsec Director, Esau Nhandara said the practical subjects fees will be maintained at the 2013 level, adding that the institution has set two deadlines for fees payment.
"For the practical subjects, we have agreed to maintain them at the 2013 level and we will be indicating these in the circulars to be sent to all the schools across the country," said Nhandara.
According to Zimsec, the first deadline for the June 2014 examinations will be Friday the 14th of March while the second and final deadline has been set for Friday the 21st of March.
The November 2014 examinations will also have two deadlines with the first being Friday 16 May while Friday 23 May 2014 will be the final deadline for exam fees payment.
