STUDENTS from Mtshabezi High School in Gwanda dominated this year's Contemporary Affairs Foundation (CA-F) schools' public speaking challenge grand finale, with two boys coming first and second respectively.
The winner, Zibusiso Ndlovu came out tops in the competition held at CA-F headquarters in Bulawayo on Wednesday and will represent Zimbabwe at an international schools debate final in London, Britain sometime in mid May.
Ndlovu outwitted his peer, Charming Dube, a Lower Six pupil at Mtshabezi, who attained 11 straight As at Ordinary Level.
Radio Dialogue reported that the finale featured six finalists selected from the country's debating schools and they included three pupils from Sizane High School, Siphosenkosi Mpofu, Prosperity Ndlovu and Denzel Ngwenya as well as Hannah Muramba a Form Three pupil from Mhinda High School.
The contestants made speeches guided by the 2014 international theme "Imagination is more Important than Education."
"I am happy to have made it to the international finals, this means a lot to me and it also definitely means I have to work hard on fine tuning my speech," said Zibusiso, who could not hide his excitement.
He said travelling to compete inLondon will broaden his horizon and an opportunity to interact with public speakers the world over.
CA-F executive director Innocent Batsani Ncube said they are working towards scaling up the public speaking competition to reach as many schools in the country.
