A FORM 6 student at Girls' College in Bulawayo, Amina Mohamed Sidat (18), has been selected into the membership of the esteemed United States-based National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS).
NSHSS recognises the country's top secondary school scholars that demonstrate outstanding leadership, scholarship and community commitment.
Membership of NSHSS entitles students to enjoy a wide variety of benefits that include scholarship opportunities, academic competitions, free events, personalised recognition and publicity honours, among other things.
According to NSHSS founder Claes Nobel, Sidat was honoured in recognition of her hard work, sacrifice and commitment that has seen her achieve a high level of academic excellence.
Sidat emerged among the top 10 students globally in the SAT exam that she wrote on January 25 after applying for admission at the University of Florida.
SAT is a United States college and university entry exam.
Sidat had applied for a scholarship to study biomedical science or architecture at the university, but after excelling in her SAT exams, the scholarship body has now given her more institutions to choose from, including the Oxford and Harvard universities.
"On behalf of NSHSS, I am honoured to recognise the hard work, sacrifice and commitment that Sidat has demonstrated to achieve this exceptional level of academic excellence," Nobel said. "Sidat is now a member of a unique community of scholars — a community that represents our very best hope for the future."
NSHSS president James W Lewis stated that the society's vision was to build a dynamic international organisation that connected members with meaningful content, resources and opportunities aimed at helping learners build on their academic successes.
"Our vision is to build a dynamic international organisation that connects members with meaningful content, resource and opportunities," said Lewis.
"We aim to help students like Sidat build on their academic successes and enhance the skills and desires to have a positive impact on the global network."
Sidat told Southern Eye that she was grateful and honoured to receive the scholarship and encouraged other students to work hard.
"I am really grateful and honoured to receive this certificate since this opens doors for me and help me choose any university I want," she said.
"I encourage my colleagues to work hard so they can achieve what they want."
