Dokora denies media allegations

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has refuted allegations carried out in some sections of the media that it has barred some school heads from handling national examinations.
In a statement, the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Dr Lazarus Dokora said his ministry appreciates the responsibility of school heads in discharging their duties, including the management and administration of national examinations, contrary to the what appeared in today's media.
"As of now, school heads and the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) are solely responsible for the examinations and that responsibility cannot be abrogated by anyone," said Dr Dokora.
Dokora, however, said his ministry does not tolerate any breach of examination security or any examination malpractice which is attributed to any of its members.
"The Ministry would like to assure the nation, parents, learners and our valued stakeholders that such members will be dealt with as stipulated in the Statutory Instrument 1 of 2000 (as amended)," Dr Dokora added.
He also said the ministry endorses the remedial measures that were taken by ZIMSEC concerning the examination papers that whose security was compromised.
Dr Dokora said the ministry remains committed to their mission of promoting and facilitating the equitable provision of quality, inclusive and relevant infant, junior and secondary education.
