The Zimbabwe Schools Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) has rejected a public invitation to explain the continuous leakage of examinations papers before they are set for.
According to the latest report from the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation, the examinations council refused to be part of the panel to discuss the examinations leak in a live radio programme on ZBC's Radio Zimbabwe.
Presenter and producer of the programme Zvinoitika Muhupenyu broadcast on Sunday mornings Sithandekile Simango battled to apologise to radio listeners that the much awaited live discussion on examination paper leaks will no longer go ahead as was planned for this Sunday. Simango said that the ZBC wrote a formal letter to ZIMSEC asking them to attend the live discussion and the examinations council replied turning down the invitation.
Candidates in the 2014 examinations had to rewrite the English Language and Mathematics papers after it emerged that some candidates had already got site of the papers before examination date. The leakage of the papers angered a lot of parents and candidates who demanded to know how the papers were leaked.
Government complained of the lack of supervision which resulted in the papers finding their way out. According to Ministry of Education press statements the leakages compromised the credibility of the country's education and put government into extra unnecessary costs.
Comment could not immediately been sourced from ZIMSEC.
