Bindura University of Science Education (BUSE) student, Tonderai Chidawa is now the president of the Zimbabwe Congress of Students Unions (ZICOSU) after winning yesterday's elections in Harare.

Chidawa will be deputised by Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) student, Stanley Moyo.

The new leadership's term in office will run for the next two years.

The newly appointed ZICOSU president immediately appealed to government to protect students who are being turned away from tertiary institutions for failing to raise their fees on time.

"Hapana mwana anofanirwa kudzingirwa kushaya. Murombo munhu vakomana (No student should be chased away from college for failing to pay fees," he said.

The Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development, Cde Oppah Muchinguri said she will try her best to address students' welfare.

"Students are key stake holders in my ministry and I am delighted to be interacting with you," she said.

23 members were elected into the ZICOSU leadership with every province being represented.
