Salary strike rocks state universities

Workers at the countries state universities say their downing tools with immediate effect, citing non-payment of the 2014 bonuses and the delay in paying their January salaries.
The national president of the Zimbabwe State Universities Union of Academics, Alois Muzvuwe told reporters that the decision to down tools was reached at a meeting held at a the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) this afternoon.
He said the workers can no longer afford to go to work, adding that they also want the government to come up with fixed salary dates and let them know in advance if the dates are changed.
Efforts to get a comment from the Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, Cde Prisca Mupfumira were fruitless as her mobile phone went unanswered.
